Working in a New School
Working in a New School
As with any other career, it can be hard as a teacher to start working in a new school. There are all the usual worries – will colleagues be nice? What should you wear? How strict will the workplace be? If you are starting a new job, here are some pointers:
- Come prepared. Make sure you have everything you’re going to need on your first day, like stationery and books.
- Be friendly. Smile, say hello and introduce yourself. People will get a good first impression this way.
- Be strict but fair. Make sure your pupils know where they stand with you. Don’t let them take advantage of you being new by trying to cause trouble.
- If you have any problems, ask someone. They won’t mind helping you and it’s better you ask than get things wrong in a new school. Current members of staff can tell you how the school operates.
