How to Prepare for Teaching Job Interviews

Very few people like interviews. There is a lot riding on them and understandably, they make people nervous. However, if you are applying for teaching jobs there are some proactive steps you can take to make sure you’re ready for the interview process. Here are our top interview tips for teachers:

  1. Go with a lesson plan in mind. You may well be asked to teach a class to see how the pupils react to you. Be as prepared as you can be so that you can stay calm.
  2. Research the school. Look at any resources that are available to you, including results from inspections, exam results etc. This will give you some good topics of conversation and will make you memorable to your interviewer.
  3. Give examples. Think of some of the most common interview questions for teachers and prepare answers to them. It might even help to write them down a few time to help you remember them. You will come across as being more reliable and trustworthy if you can offer proof that shows you’re a good teacher.
  4. Ask questions. This will help you to engage with your interviewer and will make you seem genuine and keen. It can also help you to guide the conversation so that you can bring up things you want to mention.
  5. Show that you are interested. There are lots of good teachers out there and the thing that will make you stand out amongst other candidates is your interest in the school and the role. Show that you can fit into the existing team and that you’re willing to be flexible and adaptable in order to get this particular role.
