At a certain point, most career paths will develop a degree of management responsibility. It can be a pretty big jump from doing your job of managing a certain aspect of company operations to being responsible for organising another person’s workload, and maybe even having to step in at certain a point of what they’re doing at the drop of a hat. People can be temperamental, and managing them puts you in charge of them and their expectations, which can be very stressful.

Adapting to a management role starts with learning the associated skills. Effective person management requires a range of skills and techniques, as well as a clear understanding of what people expect from their job. If your company is responsibly giving you this added responsibility, they should have helped prepare you for this role by giving you management training; training at skill workshops, and an incremental increase in management responsibilities.

Often times, it could actually be beneficial for yourself, personally, if you try to gain a managerial qualification. The great thing about this is that a qualification can be easily transferred from one institution to the next. You also don’t need to wait for your current employer to present you with your opportunity, as they can be gained without their involvement.
